Ending November in High Spirits!

Last weekend was yet again another action packed weekend for Buxton AC. The action started very early on Saturday morning at 6am where Nick Jones and Sam Willis set off on an amazing challenge to run every street in Buxton. Nick and Sam completed the 75 mile route (with around 7600ft of climbing) in 17.5 hours. Raising money for The Christie charity, the route incorporated every street in Buxton from Fairfield to Harper Hill not a street was left unrun by the remarkable Sam and Nick! Along the way, many Buxton members ran alongside them at all points in the challenge to offer support and encouragement along this epic challenge.

Other Buxton members took part in the Baslow Bolt on Saturday. This 12km route runs up and out of Baslow onto the hills before returning back via Baslow Edge down into Baslow. William Mcdonald was first Buxton home in 134th. Not far behind was Ross Martland in 145th, Tom Tredwell in 213th, Katie Rolfe in 221st (58th lady), Paul Markall in 226th, Gemma Tredwell in 231st (62nd lady) and Tim Rolfe in 311th.

Whilst some runners tackled the Baslow Bolt, some Buxton members were getting into the festive spirit at the Cheddleton 10k Christmas Pudding race. Each finisher received a Christmas pudding to enjoy. Nichola Sargeant, Rachel Dowle, Shelia Bradley and Karen Higgins all completed the race finishing 106th, 107th, 108th and 109th with Shelia Bradley winning her age group!

Buxton runners were also in action at Parkrun with Will Longden winning Lyme Park Parkrun. At the Pavilion Gardens, there was a fine turnout of Buxton runners with fifteen members taking part in the weekly free 5k event. There were some excellent results by Buxton including Jonty Brown finishing 3rd overall with a PB of 19.39. Connie Jenneson wasn’t far behind being the first lady overall to cross the line in 20.02. Matthew Rolfe, Chris Rushworth, Neil Pearsons, Rachel Cudahy, Rebecca Cudahy, Kate Brown, Justin Holmes, Jasmin Reeves, Gill Thompson, Flo Brown and Darren Hunt all took part resulting in a great attendance for Buxton.

Tracy Gregory also completed the Parkrun but was only warming up for her marathon the next day! Tracy completed the Oulton Park Marathon – ten laps of the racetrack – in a time of 4 hours 50 minutes finishing 13th lady. An excellent achievement!

Buxton member Tania Bramley has also been in action these past couple of weekends. At Penmaenmawr Fell Race in North Wales Tania finished an impressive 7th lady over the ten mile route. Continuing her great form the following weekend, Tania took part in Fife’s Tufty Trail Race where she finished in the bronze medal position – a fabulous set of results!
