Buxton Athletic Club is a community based, inclusive athletics and running club that offers quality, progressive coaching to all ages and abilities from 7 to 70+. Buxton AC has been voted England Athletics Regional Club of the Year 2016 and 2017, and is the current National EA Club of The Year.
We are a diverse group of about 200 people from in and around the Buxton area who love to run!
Some of us simply want to get fit and are beginners, whilst others are more serious and want to compete at local and national level. And, of course, there are all those who fall somewhere in between those two camps. Over the years we have encouraged total beginners to start running, and many have stayed the course, achieving personal targets. Formed in 1977 by our current (and returned after 29 years) Chairman Chris Bent, our club caters for everyone.
We have plenty of members to be able to put out various teams at road, fell, cross country & road events, and have a great variety of abilities within the Club. Buxton AC members are regularly in the prizes at races, testament to the excellent quality of runners in the Club, always proud to represent Buxton & their Club.
On the back of the 2012 Olympic Games, we undertook to organise a monthly 5K race in our local Pavilion Gardens. This takes place on the second Saturday of every month (except for July when we hold our Carnival 4 mile road race). These timed, free runs are hugely successful and attract many people of all ages from all over the area, from those who have never run before to those who are out to win and improve their performance each month.
Most recently, we have run several Target 5K Beginners’ Groups, held over nine weeks, helping absolute beginners to progress from just a few minutes running to successfully completing our Gardens 5K event.
