Buxton AC runners

Junior athletics

Progress at
your own pace.

For many of our juniors, running starts with games, movement and having fun with friends. As confidence grows, there are opportunities to try different disciplines, develop new skills and take part in races but there’s no pressure to compete. Some simply enjoy coming along and being active, while others progress all the way to competing at county and national level.

To help juniors discover racing in a friendly environment, we run our own club participation race series. It encourages everyone to have a go, build confidence and experience a range of events, from road and cross country to fell running.

For those who want to compete more widely, Buxton AC takes part in the North Staffordshire and Manchester Area Cross Country Leagues, as well as the Derbyshire Mini-Leagues in Sportshall, Cross Country and Track & Field. Our juniors regularly represent the club at local, regional and national events, with many going on to represent Derbyshire and, in recent years, several earning selection for England.

Most importantly, we celebrate effort and participation as much as results. Our annual Junior Presentation recognises the achievements of every kind of runner, with awards and incentives for taking part, trying hard in training and getting involved throughout the season.

Safe & supported

Young athletes in good hands.

Our junior sessions are led by qualified, experienced coaches who know how to help young athletes enjoy running, build confidence and develop at their own pace. The team brings together extensive athletics coaching experience alongside backgrounds in teaching, supported by assistant coaches and volunteers.

Above all, we want every child to feel safe, supported and welcome when they come to Buxton AC. Whether they’re joining us for their first session or developing towards competition, they’ll be encouraged in a positive environment where enjoyment and individual development come first.
