Buxton AC juniors provide the opportunity for children from the age of 7 to develop their athletic abilities developing a foundation based on the England Athletics 365 programme. We currently have about fifty 7-18 year olds training each week with us.
We train twice weekly, on Monday’s and Thursdays. Details of both training sessions are detailed below:
Mondays
Time: 18:00 – 19:00
Location: Buxton Community School Sports Hall
Ages: Over 11s
The Monday session is designed for our more competitive youngsters wanting to improve their running form, speed and endurance. It is generally an outdoor session based either on the sports field, local fells or around the roads – although we do have access to indoor facilities where appropriate. We include strength and conditioning into our training programmes using circuit training and plyometric exercises as well as working on technique and flexibility.
Thursdays
Time: 18:00 – 19:00
Location: Buxton Community School Sports Hall
Ages: All
The Thursday session is usually split into 3 groups: the U-11s – FUNdamentals group largely based in the Sports Hall; and the improvers, speed and the endurance group who are moving more towards Event Group specialism. These sessions use various locations appropriate to the ability of the group, weather conditions and aims of the session so might be on the grass track on Temple Fields, off road around Solomon’s Temple or into the Pavilion Gardens as appropriate.
Training fees are £2.00 per session to help us cover the costs of hiring the hall, coach training and equipment.
We charge a small membership fee of £8.00 for those youngsters who want to compete. This fee helps contribute to the England Athletics athlete affiliation fees (currently £16 per athlete) however the Club subsidises to the full cost of EA membership.
