Brother and sister duo Will and Grace Longden took the men and lady’s win at this week’s Lyme Park parkrun.
Both youngsters ran personal best times with Will also breaking the age category course record for the second time on his second time competing in this race. The race was dominated by the Buxton AC junior runners from the start with Will battling team mate Sam Soles throughout the 5k course. The boys were neck and neck on the finish line with both being awarded the same time but Will getting the win by a whisker. Grace finished an impressive 21st overall to come first lady with team mate Heather Wilshaw not far behind as 4th lady – first in her age category and second junior lady. 164 ran.
Meanwhile at the first round of the Peak District Trails run at Bakewell, Buxton AC junior Harry Bond won the 5.3km trail race outright in a cracking time of 22.25. The series comprises of 3 races Bakewell, Grindleford and Tideswell with distances ranging from 5-7km. The courses are designed in conjunction with the rangers at The Peak District National Park in some of the most spectacular and scenic areas of the Peaks and aim to introduce runners to some new tracks, trails and places which they didn’t even know existed!
Last weekend saw the Buxton team taking on the Knype Pool funrun, a picturesque 1 mile race around Knypesley Pool, Biddulph. James Burgess led the team home in 9th (7th boy), Eden Pigott 10th (3rd girl), Lena Goulding 15th (5th girl) and Emily Jones 16th (6th girl). 43 ran.
Sunday’s Whaley Junior Parkrun was a soggy one but a few brave Buxton souls ventured out. First Buxton AC junior home was Dylan Gray who came in 7th overall 3rd U10 boy, with teammate Benjamin Gray coming 8th, and Callum Wymer 10th all in the under 10 boys age category. Molly Golden finished next having taken a fall but still managing 5th U10 girl, followed by brother Jimmy 15th U10. 51 ran.
