Saturday saw the long awaited return of Buxton’s monthly Pavilion Gardens 5k after an absence of 15 long months due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Following guidelines laid down by England Athletics, 37 runners ranging in age from 7 to 67 safely negotiated the course and posted some impressive performances.
Winner overall was the rapidly improving Chris Rushworth in 18 minutes and 9 seconds followed closely by Sol Clark 10 seconds behind. First woman home was Gemma Tredwell in 22:41 with Janet Taylor (pictured) second in 23:52.
First juniors athletes to finish were sister and brother act Coraline (aged 10) and James Mitchell-Smith (12) posting 24:07 and 24:10 respectively.
Great credit goes to everyone who took part as we look forward to next month’s event on 10th July at 9am. The event is free and held on the second Saturday of each month. All are welcome.
The event also seeks to raise money for local charities – on this occasion £101 was donated to Blythe House Hospice in return for some well earned cake – thanks to Rob and Charlie Narejko for the goodies!
As well as next month’s event, other forthcoming Pavilion Gardens 5k runs are scheduled for August 14th, September 11th, October 9th and November 13th.
