It was a wet and windy weekend for a for round two of the wintery Manchester Area Cross Country League held at Kenworthy Woods.
Flooding nearly stopped play but the tides abated enough to allow a fabulous turn out of 18 hardy Buxton Juniors to plough through the mud and do the club proud. First up were the superstar under 11’s – Jonty Brown and Dylan Gray for the boys in 38th and 48th, and the girls – Eden Pigott, Lena Goulding, Flo Brown and Rachel Cudahy put in excellent team work to push each other around the gruelling course in 55thg, 56th, 58th and 63rd, the team coming in 19th overall.
The under 13’s raced next, with Rebecca Cudahy finishing 72nd for the girls, and the boys team led in by the awesome Jack Cook in 16th with team mates Oliver Ecob 52nd, Tommy Goulding 69th and Matt Rolfe 71th – the team coming in 14th overall.
The fabulous duo of Sienna Phillips and Joseph Thorogood represented Buxton in the U15 race with Sienna 36th girl and Joseph 36th boy.
Buxton’s under 17 team continue to impress, Amy Whelan having a storming run to come in 4th girl and the boys being led in by Sam Soles in an outstanding 3rd, backed up by Stu Diamond in 18th, Ed Diamond 26th and Dan Frewer 35th, putting the team in 6th position overall.
The under 11’s team were not satisfied with simply one race in a weekend – on the Sunday they were off to the fells to Leg It Round Lathkill!! The Buxton juniors dominated the junior race with Jonty Brown winning outright and sister Flo leading the U10 girls home in 1st with Lena Goulding 2nd, Evie Willis 3rd and Eden Pigott 4th. Amazing running from the youngsters!
