Buxton AC racing in the heat

As part of the Tideswell wakes week, a large number of both juniors and seniors from Buxton Athletics club took part in the Tideswell Inter Inns 5k race that goes from the Star inn in Tideswell to the Red Lion in Litton, then back to Tideswell to finish at the Horse and Jockey. The first Buxton back was Ben Light in 3rd place, followed by Dave Finch in 4th place who also took 1st male vet 50 then Joel Tidmarsh in 12th place, Connie Jenneson had a cracking run to come in 15th, taking 1st female, followed by Will Aspinall in 20th place, Matt Rolfe, 22nd; Mark Jenneson,30th; Jo Bednall, 31st and  1st female vet 50; Katie Rolfe, 34th place and 1st female vet 40; Ross Martland, 42nd; William McDonald, 48th place; Rebecca Cudahy, 54th; Kate Brown, 59th; Joanne Cudahy, 62nd; Bea Forrest, 64th and 1st female under 14; Gemma Davies, 72nd; Pete Bailey, 78th;  Flo Brown, 83rd; Jonty Brown, 84th, Tracy Gregory, 88th. Later in the week,  Dave Finch took part in the 4.4 mile Tideswell fell race and came 11th and claiming 1st male vet 50.

Midweek saw two  seniors take part in the 5.5 mile DCRO Dash from Castleton, a tough fell race taking in hills around the village to help raise funds for the Derbyshire Cave Rescue Organization.  Jo Bendall finished 50th taking 1st female vet 50, followed by Mathew Naden in 75th place.
The fourth race in the Staffordshire Moorlands Summer Series was held at the picturesque Ilam Hall. In the senior race Kate Brown finished with 122nd place, Shelia Bradley came 133rd and Nicola Sargeant was 165th. In the Junior race Joel Tidmarsh came 3rd and Jonty Brown was 7th.
A group of Buxton AC juniors travelled to Church Stretton to compete in the Hope Bowdler Fell Race, part of the English Junior Fell Championship where they raced on tough terrain in very hot conditions. First up was Georgia Cudahy in the under 11 girls where she came 14th. In the under 13 girls Evie Willis was 17th followed by Hannah Cudahy in place 22nd. Joel Tidmarsh had a great run in the under 15 boys to finish 18th followed by Will Aspinall in 23rd place.  Meanwhile, in the under 17 girls, Rebecca Cudahy came 22nd.

Closer to home, two athletes enjoyed the carnival atmosphere at the Whaley Waltz in Whaley Bridge whilst helping to raise money for the Thomas Theyer Foundation.  Richard Bouglas completed the 5.6 mile fell race in 57th place followed by Matt Naden in 97th.
Away from the fells, but still tackling the hills, William McDonald took part in the Cannock Chase 50k, an ultra-distance race which included three ten-mile loops of Cannock Chase.  He finished in 18th place with a time of 6 hours and 15 minutes.

On the track, junior Connie Jenneson has represented Derbyhire in the Mason Trophy in Birmingham where she got a PB of 5:03 in the 1500m.
John Sewell took part in the gruelling Kinder Trog Fell Race over a very hilly 15.5 mile course taking in the hills around Hayfield where he finished in 20th place.
All members of Buxton AC are incredibly proud of and in awe of member Clare Holdcroft.  Clare, a Buxton Mountain Rescue Volunteer, completed the 268 mile Montane Spine Race, running from Edale to Kirk Yetholm in Scotland, following the high and wild terrain of the Pennine Way.  After 147 hours and very little sleep, Clare touched the wall of the Border Hotel in Kirk Yetholm to be the 6th female to cross the line.
To round the week off, several Buxton athletes braved the heat, and a river crossing, to take part in the Bakewell Pudding Race, each receiving a Bakewell Pudding for their efforts. In the 10k senior race Will Longden came 2nd, then Joanne Cudahy and Tracy Gregory. Then in the Junior race, Joel Tidmarsh continued his great form finishing in 1st place followed by Erin Colebrook who took 1st junior girl and Nola Colebrook,  3rd Junior girl, Rachel Cudahy was 1st intermediate girl and Rebecca Cudahy 2nd intermediate girl.  Harris Colebrook also had a brilliant race not finishing far behind his older sisters.
