With 3 Buxton Juniors celebrating their birthdays this weekend what better way to enjoy your special day than running a cross country race!
Archie Bennett celebrated turning 10 years old, by running his debut race for Buxton AC Juniors in the U11 race of the 3rd round North Staffordshire Cross Country League. Also running in the U11 race Lena Goulding who was also turning 10 brought flapjack she had made herself for all her team mates, who included Rebecca Cudahy who ran the under 13 race to celebrate turning 12!
The race held at the rustic Park Hall Country Park in Western Coyney this was a particularly challenging route over a hilly course featuring the customary muddy intervals. An impressive 21 Buxton Juniors turned out and produced some excellent results.
The under 17 team continued their excellent form led by Sam Soles who finished an outstanding 2nd putting him in firm contention for a podium finish in the overall league. Team mate Stu Diamond also impressed in 6th place with Dan Frewer completing the team in 18th. The girls team of Amy Whelan and Heather Wilshaw both had great runs to finish 5th and 9th respectively – Amy settling into a strong overall position to challenge for a top spot in the final race next month.
Sienna Phillips continues to run well in the under 15 age group finishing 9th, while under 13 team mates Lucy Whelan and Rebecca Cudahy both improved their overall places in the league with 10th and 25th position finishes. The under 13 boys team packed well with Oliver Ecob leading them home in 22nd, Tommy Goulding 25th and Matt Rolfe 29th.
The under 11 teams had a particularly impressive turn out with 5 girls and 4 boys turning out. The girls team were led in by Lena Goulding in 17th, with Eden Pigott 20th, Flo Brown 32nd, Rachel Cudahy 38th and Emily Jones 46th. The boys team were led by Dylan Gray in 28th, followed by Jonty Brown in 30th, Archie Bennett 35th and Jim Burgess 37th.
