Buxton Earn Multiple Medals In County Champs

The regional qualification rounds of the English Schools Athletics Association Track and Field Championships.  The Derbyshire rounds were held at Moorways Stadium while the Staffordshires were at Northwood Stadium. Both were held this weekend with 12 Buxton AC juniors having qualified to represent their region, taking home an outstanding haul of 6 medals!

In the Derbyshire rounds in the Year 8/9 Junior girls category running for the High Peak Lauren Wilshaw ran a County Qualification time of 5.10 in the 1500m to earn a Bronze Medal.  Amy Whelan also ran in the 1500m with a time of 5.45 and Will Longden having won his heat went on to finish 4th just outside the medals in a great time of 4.38.  Abbie Fryer-Winder represented the High Peak in the 800m coming 5th in her heat.  In the Staffordshire rounds Lucy Bednall had a fantastic day coming home with a Silver Medal in the 1500m running a County Qualification time of 5.10 and jumping 4.40m in the Long Jump to earn a Bronze Medal.

In the Year 10/11 Intermediate age category Derbyshire rounds Ellie Wilson and Samuel Soles both gained  Silver Medals in the 1500m.  Stuart Diamond earnt a Bronze in the 3000m and Heather Wilshaw just missed out in the High Jump coming in 4th.  Matt Schofield also qualified to run for the High Peak in the 1500m while Harry Bond qualified to run in the Staffordshire rounds also in 1500m and came in 5th.

Ellie, Lucy and Sam all qualified for the Mason Cup Track and Field Championships at Alexander Stadium, Birmingham on July.
