Buxton’s highly popular Junior Fell Championships saw the third race in the series take place from Tansley Primary School. Tansley Hill Fell Race sells itself as “arguable the hardest Fell race in Derbyshire that isn’t an AS!”
At 5.6 miles and 1100ft of climb the adult race is certainly not for the faint hearted and although the juniors races are somewhat shorter they are still mighty! 19 Buxton juniors turned out with 13 of them gain top 3 finishes! Race 1 was for 6/7 year olds over 1 km and Buxton juniors Stanley Cook, William Maclaurin and Hannah Cudahy represented the club. Hannah and Stanley both came excellent 2nd boy and girl. Will had a great run in this his debut for the club, coming in 5th – his brother Charlie also making his debut in race 2, leading the under 10 boys home in 3rd place, with Benjamin Gray 10th and Jimmy Golden 12th. Erin Colebrook led the Buxton U10 girls to a 1,2,3 whitewash with team mates Rachel Cudahy and Flo Brown.
The 3rd race for under 12’s was also dominated by the Buxton Junior team with Jack Cook taking victory, teammate Jonty Brown chasing him in in 2nd place, ahead of Dylan Gray, 5th and Liam Jones 6th. Molly Golden won the U12 girls category with Buxton’s Aoife Lennon not far behind in 2nd.
In the under 14 girls race Sienna Phillips had a great run to come in 2nd with teammate Grace Bond in 3rd. The final junior race for under 16 saw Buxton putting that cherry on the cake to take victory in both categories – Lucy Bednall first girl and Harry Bond first boy.
