This week’s Staffordshire Moorlands Summer series race was held at Shuttlingsloe Fell. The junior race was a tough 2 mile forest run on the steep-sided hill, sometimes described as the ‘Matterhorn of Cheshire’, with an elevation of 506 m (1,660 ft).
Harry Bond led the team home in 3rd place overall – winning his age category JM14. He was chased home by 11 year old Jake O’Donnell in 5th, Jake also winning his age category. First girl home was Lucy Bednall who is dominating the junior girls category and leading her age group JF14. Also winning their age categories were Amy Whelan who came in 3rd girl overall (1st JF13) and Sienna Phillips in 5th girl (1st JF11) Coming in 9th and 10th girls were Abbie Fryer-Winder and Ava Hazelhurst who came 2nd and 3rd in their age category of JF14.
In the under 11 Fun Run, Lucy Whelan led the team home in 6th overall – 2nd girl. She was followed in by Henry Hazelhurst 6th boy, Jim Burgess in 8th boy and Liam Jones in 10th boy. The next race in the series will be the Buxton Hilly which starts in Grinlow Caravan park and goes over Soliman’s Temple.
