The 4th round of the English Junior Fell Champs saw Buxton juniors battling their greatest challenge yet facing the near sheer climb and descent of Winder Hill and Arant Haw at Sedbergh Fell Race, North Yorkshire.
18 determined Buxton juniors took on the mountainous challenge coming away with 4 podium positions and Buxton’s second best team points in the series. First up were the under 9’s, where 6 year old Stanley Cook led the team in as 9th boy followed by Jimmy Golden in 15th and Hannah Cudahy 11th girl. 26 ran.
The under 11 saw Buxton’s Dylan Gray making his Championship debut in a cracking 23rd following team mate Jonty Brown who stormed to 6th. Jonty’s sister Flo led the Buxton girls home in 18th with Rachel Cudahy chasing in 24th. 54 ran.
In the largest field of the day Jack Cook claimed the first prize for Buxton taking the Bronze medal in the under 13 race. He was backed up by a super girls squad of Grace Bond, Molly Golden and Rebecca Cudahy who came 22nd, 29th and 30th respectively. 68 ran.
The under 15 girls had fantastic runs in a competitive field of 61 – Lauren Wilshaw finishing a strong 11th with Grace Longden not far behind in 15th.
Buxton scored it’s first Gold medal of the day with Will Longden dominating the U17 race leading from the start, team mate Harry Bond also running well to come in 13th boy. Battling her way back from injury Buxton’s Heather Wilshaw represented the club in the U17 girls finishing 8th.
The Buxton boys in the under 19 race with ascended to the heady heights of the 605m Arant Haw topped the day of with an impressive haul of Silver for super Sam Soles and Bronze for the sparkling Stu Diamond!
