Buxton takes on Taddington Lanes

A late summer lull in races meant that a large number of Buxton AC athletes decided to take on the short but tough Taddington Lanes Race. The four-mile race, part of the Taddington Wakes Week and organised by Pete Stubbington, brings together many runners from across the area. Enjoying the evening sun, competitors started off with the uphill climb up Taddington Main Street before turning left and taking on the long and steep climb up Slipperlow Lane. Once at the top, there was a bit of respite for runners on undulating lanes before they dropped back down to Taddington. However, those in the know, were ready for the ‘sting in the tail’. On arriving back at the village and being almost in touching distance of the finish, the course suddenly takes runners on a lap up the back of the village before returning them to the finish with a dash back down the Main Street.
The overall race was won by Greg Hopkinson in a time of 22 minutes and 45 seconds. Second and third places were keenly contested by Buxton AC Athletes with Ben Light finishing in 24.01 with Rob Lloyd (first vet over 40) hot on his heels in 24.02.   Buxton juniors also ran well to finish in the prizes with Joel Tidmarsh taking 2nd junior boy and Matthew Rolfe 3rd. Meanwhile, Rachel Cudahy finished as 2nd junior girl followed by sister, Rebecca, who was 3rd. Full Buxton results with overall placings were Ben Light 2nd, Rob Loyd 3rd, Rob White 4th, Jon Sewell 12th, Carl Nolan 15th, Andy Lidstone 17th, Joel Tidmarsh 19th, Rich Bouglas 23rd, Matthew Rolfe 24th, Rebecca Corbett 29th, Katie Rolfe 31st, Will McDonald 34th, Rachel Cudahy 41st, Joanne Cudahy 44th, Rebecca Cudahy 47th, Duncan Campbell 48th, Matt Nadin 54th, Bev Golden 62nd, Terry Holland 64th, Kate Brown 65th, Sheila Bradley 71st, Pete Bailey 72nd, George Webb 75th, Sarah Nolan 83rd.
Meanwhile, Tracy Gregory took part in the Double or Quit Race hosted by Ilkeston Running Club at Shipley Park. Competitors must attempt to complete a five-mile multi-terrain lap within one hour and five minutes. If successful, they then can choose to run to the finish or complete another lap to bring their distance up to 10 miles. Tracy completed two laps (ten miles) in a time of 1 hour, 40 minutes and 34 seconds.
