Buxton Athletic Club ran in their biannual “Jim’s Dream on Mile” consisting of 2 laps of a circuit in the Pavilion Gardens and held in memory of club founder Jim Bradley. 44 runners, both junior and senior, from Buxton AC, took part. The overall winner was Dave Finch in 5 minutes and 19 seconds. The fastest junior overall was Jonty Brown with a time of 5:39. This year’s winner of the Jim Bradley Memorial “Dream On” Trophy for the most improved club junior athlete since previous mile race in April, earlier this year, was Georgia Cudahy, knocking 39 seconds off her time.
Sam Soles took part in the Groovy Kinder Love Fell Race, a course of 15.2 miles starting from Hayfield and taking in the surrounding moors. He finished in 2nd position in a time of 2:26:30.
At the first match in the North Staffordshire Cross Country League at Betley Court Farm Georgia Cudahy and Marshall Hibbert-Layland both made their cross-country debut. In the under 11 girls race Georgia came 24th and, in the under 11 boys, Marshall finished in 16th. Then, in the under 15 boys, Joel Tidmarsh was 19th followed in the under 17 girls by Connie Jenneson who was 3rd and Rebecca Cudahy, 10th. In the Senior Ladies race Joanne Cudahy was first Buxton’s runner home in 80th place, Heather Fryer-Winder came 123rd, Sheila Bradley 137th, Rachel Dowle 192nd and Nichola Sargeant 198th. Steve Watson was the club’s lone male runner in the senior race, finishing in 77th place.
Three Buxton members took part in the Stanage Struggle Fell Race, a 6.2 mile fell race climbing up from Hathersage to the scenic Stanage Edge. First home from the club was Will McDonald who was 112nd overall. He was followed by Heather Haggis in 152nd place and Pete Bailey, 169th.
Meanwhile, a group from the club took part in the Chatsworth 10k. Held on the Chatsworth Estate, the 10k race raises funds for Blythe House Hospicecare and Helen’s Trust. Connie Jenneson was first Buxton home in a time of 45.14, gaining her 43rd place. She was followed by John Colebrook in 176th place, Ruth Gowers 198th, Angela Bent 439th, Rosie Dinnen 529th, Oonagh Colebrook 680th and Sally Hodgkinson in 805th place.
