This weekend saw family fun at both park Hall cross country in the 3rd round of the NSCCL at Park Hall and at local park run in Whaley Bridge on the Sunday morning, both events saw amazing results and also acted as a fun day for all the family.
Firstly, in the Under 11 girl’s category saw 24th position go to Lucy Whelan followed swiftly by Rachel Cudahy in 25. In 38th Molly Golden who had mum Bev racing later in the women’s race and in close proximity to her team mate and sister of Rachael, Rebecca Cudahy finish in 43 respectively.
In the under 11 boys’ race, Jonty Brown lead the team finishing just outside the top 10 in 11th place with his mum Kate cheering on from the side whilst preparing for her race later on in the day. Dylan Gray finished 30th with Liam Jones just 8 places behind. In 53rd Matt Rolfe ran a fantastic race to finish in 53rd with both Mum and Dad (Katie and Tim) cheering him on and then racing later.
The under 13’s girls only had one Buxton representative with Sienna Phillips running an outstanding race and finishing in a well-deserved position of 9th out of a very strong group of young athletes.
Ben Hawtin was also the only under 13 Buxton boy and finished in a brilliant position of 25th out of a very strong field on a very fast course which Bens Dad, Matt would soon find out in the men’s race.
The under 15 girls saw the deadly duo of Amy Whelan and Abbie Fryer Winder with them both finishing high in the pecking order with Amy in 5th and just missing the podium followed by Abbie in 15th position. Both girls watched on in anticipation to see Amy’s dad (Mark) and Abbie’s mum (Heather) in their respective races.
The under 15 boys’ saw Harry Bond continue his rich vein of form finishing in a fantastic position of 6th followed by Dougie Wilson who finish 25th respectively.
Heather Wilshaw set the under 17’s girls race alive with a brilliant performance finishing in 8th out of a very tough group of athletes. Mum of heather and team coach Rachel would have been over the moon heading into her race.
Sam soles and Stuart diamond made up the under 17’s boys’ team with Sam finishing just outside the podium position in 4th with Stuart breaking into the top ten and finishing in 9th on an undulating course which took place on various surfaces.
The following day, a few athletes were at it again at the Whaley Bridge park run and the Buxton Juniors smashed it! Jonty & Amy fought it out for the win. Matt & Lucy battled to 6th & 8th, and Flo did brilliantly too.
Team coach Rachael Dowle said “What a glorious day it was in the beautiful country park. What was particularly great today was seeing more of the junior’s parents joining the club and running with their kids! Running is a cheap, healthy, fun activity for all the family and today was another example with the juniors helping one of their own – Rebecca Cudahy celebrate her birthday!! Sister Rachel ran as did mum Jo and her younger sisters (too young to race but still active club members) supporting! That’s what it’s all about!”
