It’s been a whirlwind week of variety for the Buxton AC Juniors starting with the Staffordshire Moorlands Summer series on Thursday – the second in the series of 10 and the juniors put in another fabulous performance!
Led home by Harry Bond who added another win in the Junior Boys aged 14 race – 4th male overall, he was followed by Jake O’Donnell who dominated the under 11 series last year putting in his first performance of this series by winning the JM11 category – 7th male overall. Completing the boys team was Joseph Thorogood putting in a second solid performance coming 8th JM12.
In the girls category Sienna Philips led the ladies home finishing 3rd girl overall winning her category JF11 consolidating her place at the top of this table. Team mate Grace Bond came in next – 6th girl overall and another 2nd place in her category of JF11. Abbie Fryer-Winder made her first appearance this series to storm to the top of the JF14 category with a win, followed by Ava Hazelhurst taking her second 2nd place JF14 girl.
Harry and Abbie then travelled to Derby for the Hairy Helmet Relay’s. Started in 2010 The Helmet is a 4 leg relay skirting around Darley Park for just over 2 miles each leg. 225 teams take part over 17 different categories with profits supporting Rainbow Hospice for children. Representing the Buxton Juniors this year were Ellie Wilson, Abbie Fryer-Winder, Dougie Wilson and Harry Bond. Ellie got the team off to a great start in a cracking time of 13:35, she handed over to Abbie who ran the 2 miles in 14:41 another great time. Dougie took the 3rd leg maintaining the juniors position in a time of 14:40 and then Harry ran an absolute blinder of a leg covering his leg in 12:01! Meaning the Buxton Juniors came home as winning team in the Junior Mixed Category! A great evening out!
Ellie Wilson then joined team mate Sam Soles at the Mason’s Trophy Track and Field Championships in Birmingham on Saturday representing Derbyshire in the 1500m track event. Both juniors had a fantastic experience – finishing with smiles on their faces! Sam had a great run smashing his previous personal best running a time of 4:25!
The rest of the Buxton AC junior team spent Saturday in Lancashire at the 5th race in the English Junior Fell Championships Race – Clougha Pike.
