It has been an extremely successful weekend for the Buxton AC juniors. On Saturday Ellie Wilson travelled down to the iconic Parliament Hill in London for the National Cross Country Championships. Ellie raced in the U15 girls in a field containing the best cross country runners in the country – finishing an outstanding 135 out of 464 girls.
Meanwhile closer to home Buxton juniors dominated at Lyme Park parkrun with the boys finishing top 3 overall – Sam Soles 1st, Stu Diamond 2nd and Jacob Miller 3rd (in a new PB time!). 14 year old Heather Wilshaw also had an excellent race finishing first lady! 90 ran.
Over at Bakewell Parkrun Abbie Fryer-Winder running for the first time on this course – finished 30th overall – 2nd in her age category. Matthew Rolfe also took on the 5km challenge finishing 98th overall – 2nd in his age group under 10 in a new PB time!
On Sunday Buxton AC juniors Helen Thornhill and Joe Purvis took part in the gruelling Hope Winter Fell race. At 9.5km in length with 451m of ascent this tough race goes does a circuit of Win Hill in Hope. This year 213 hardy runners took part in freezing conditions. Helen had an outstanding race, coming in 50th overall and first lady – nearly 10 minutes ahead of the second lady! 16 year old Joe also put in a strong performance in this adult race, finishing 62nd overall – 2nd under 17 male.
