Buxton’s monthly Pavilion Gardens 5km took place this weekend on a new, improved, faster course! Buxton AC Juniors were not deterred by the damp day and took the field by storm!
9 year old Jonty Brown ran a personal best to come in 10th overall and first junior in a super speedie time of 21:40. First junior girl and 2nd lady overall was Buxton’s Heather Wilshaw with her best time this year of 22:52. 16th overall was 12 year old Luke Guise – 2nd junior male and 3rd junior male 23rd overall was team mate Liam Jones.
Sunday saw Brown and sister Florence take part in the Leg It Round Lathkil Junior Fell Race. The race is part of the ‘Lathkil Fun Day’ which is full of various family games and events organised by the Hotel and raising money for the ‘Children in Need’ appeal. The juniors run a 1.8 mile Fun Run held in conjunction with the Senior race, along the lower section of Lathkil Dale. Jonty dominated the competition which included much older children as well as a few seniors, winning the race outright with a 2 minute lead over second place! Flo came an impressive 9th overall – second U10 girl.
On the same day 3 hardy juniors took part in the Whaley Junior Parkrun held in the extremely apt location for Remembrance Sunday, of the Memorial Park, Whaley Bridge. Both races saw the running fraternity joined to run in Remembrance with the Lathkil race starting after the 2 minutes silence and the parkrunners under a field of crosses and poppies. Buxton’s Amy Whelan – a regular at Whaley, came 1st girl, second overall, her sister Lucy came 10th overall – 2nd JW10 and team mate Matthew Rolfe had a great run to come 7th overall – 4th junior male under 10 – in a new PB time.
