It was a day of 4 seasons with sleet, hail, gusty winds with intermittent sunshine for the first race in the Accelerate Junior Gritty series – Wolf’s Pit Fell Race.
The series has 4 races with your best 3 performances counting in the overall league. This was also the first race in Buxton AC juniors Club Fell Championships and the weather did not put off 13 hardy youngsters who took on the freezing winds and muddy hills in the junior races.
First up was the U10 Fun Run where Buxton juniors dominated. Henry Hazelhurst won outright with Rachel Cudahy first girl, Flo Brown in 2nd – on her fell debut, ahead of Rachels younger sister Hannah. 6 year old Stanley Cook also made his debut for Buxton AC having a storming run and finishing with a smile on his face!
In the main junior race the Buxton Juniors had great runs with Jack Cook won the U12 boys category with Jonty Brown mirroring his sister on his fell debut to come in second place followed by team mates Liam Jones and Matt Rolfe, and Rebecca Cudahy enjoyed a confident run in the U12 girls category. Lauren Wilshaw was 2nd girl overall and got the trophy for 2nd under 14 girl, with sister Heather winning the under 16 age category and team mate Ava Hazelhurst 2nd U16 girl. Harry Bond also had a strong run in a highly competitive U16 boys race.
