Buxton Juniors travelled to Marl Pitts, Rossendale to receive their Silver Trophy for finish 2nd team overall in the English Junior Fell Championships this weekend.
The Presentation event was an all day event celebrating the best of junior Fell and Mountain Running which included an orienteering competition, Inspirational Speakers, a round up of the year and climaxing with the presentation of the awards. Teams from more than 50 clubs from all over the country took part in the Championships which comprised of 6 races held in the most beautiful fell running and mountainous areas of the country. Not only did Buxton take team Silver in this prestigious event they also took 3 individual Silvers – Sam Soles U19 boys, Will Longden U17 boys and Lucy Bednall U17 girls. In the Club Challenge event which recognises Clubs who manage to get teams out for the non-competive U9 and U11 categories – Buxton was awarded top accolade for being one of only 4 Clubs that got teams out in both categories at all 6 of the races.
To count in the Championships individuals needed to complete at least 4 races. An outstanding 28 Buxton AC juniors took part in the Championships with 21 of those completing the requisite 4 races – earning themselves a coveted EJFC t-shirt and 10 doing all 6 races for a hoodie! As well as the 3 who finished in the medals Buxton also had an additional 6 runners in the top 10 Nationally – they were U13 boy – Jack Cook 10th, U15 girls Lauren Wilshaw 9th, Sienna Philips 10th, U17 girls – Amy Whelan 5th, Heather Wilshaw 8th and U19 Stu Diamond 5th.
