Buxton Athletic Club has been making the most of the sunny weather over the last couple of weeks to take part in a busy schedule of races.
At the Boars Head Fell race, and 8 mile race taking in some of the hills of Lyme Park, the Bednalls led the club in. Lucy Bednall finished 3rd woman in 63rd place overall, whilst her mum, Jo finished in 92nd place, taking the first female vet 50. They were followed by Paul Markall in 105th and Pete Bailey in 143rd. Tracy Gregory finished in 161st and Heather Fryer-Winder in 162nd.
Joel Tidmarsh was the sole junior from the club in the junior race at the Staffordshire Summer Series races held on the Roaches finishing in 3rd place . In the senior race Rob LLoyd came 4th followed by William Mcdonald in 94th. Kate Brown was 136th, Nichola Sargeant 166th and Jenniee Light 193rd.
Then Buxton athletic club had several teams in the Hairy Helmets Relay race held on a warm Friday evening at Darley Abbey. Each team member took on the two and a bit mile course against other teams from around the area for an evening of competition but also fun with several teams opting for fancy dress. First Buxton team in was the Buxton men, consisting of Callum D’souza, David Fryer-Winder, Tom Tredwell and John Colebrook, who came 20th with a time of 55:09. The juniors team, made up of Mathew Rolfe, Flo Brown, Erin Colebrook and Connie Jenneson, were then the next Buxton team in 32nd place with a time of 56:52, winning 1st mixed junior team. They were followed by the women’s team in 71st place, the Super Steadies in 158th place and the Injured Idiots, running with banadges and crutches, in 170th place.
Further afield, Saturday Will Longden ran in the World Hill Running Championships under 20s in Innsbruck, Austria, where he represented Great Britain and Northern Ireland. In a tough and rather hot race, he came 23rd helping the team to second place.
In the boiling heat, several Buxton athletes took part in the Wincle Trout Race. I the junior race, the first Buxton junior to finish was Evie Willis who came 16th. Despite being sent the wrong way part way round the course, sisters Hannah and Rebecca Cudahy finished in 21st and 22nd places respectively with Rebecca claiming first under 17 girl. Four Buxton seniors then braved the hills and the heat in the senior race to come home with the prize of a fresh trout each. Firstl back was Andy Lidstone in 81st, Tom Tredwell in 94th place, Paul Markall 113rd and Katie Rolfe 146th.
Joel Tidmarsh continued with his bid to complete all of the races in the Staffordshire Moorlands Summer Series, completing the junior race at Shutlingsloe in 6th place. Meanwhile, in the senior race, Rob LLoyd was 4th and Nichola Sargeant 166th.
This Saturday saw the Baslow Bootleg Bash, a tough 26 mile race that takes in the tops and edges above Baslow. Paul Markall completed the race in 4:43:25, taking an amazing hour and 42 minutes off his previous time, in 5th position. Club members Shelia Bradley, Heather Fryer-Winder, Sarah Nolan, Rachel Dowle and Bev Golden also walked the route.
Opting for a shorter race of 4.7 miles, Matt Nadin took part in Bosley Fell race where he finished 22nd. Cudahy sisters Rebecca and Rachel took part in the junior race with Rebecca leading the field in to take first place and, younger sister, Hannah taking second place.
