The second round of the Staffordshire Moorlands Summer Series was held this week at Grinlow Country Park. The Buxton Hilly race is a challenging route taking in Soloman’s Temple and Grinlow woods and as the name suggests is a tad hilly!
The Buxton Juniors were out in force regardless of the changeable weather – with started with a torrential downfall that had most of the youngsters soaked through! 28 amazing Buxton juniors took on the challenge, 16 of whom ran in the under 11 Fun Run.
First home in the Fun Run winning the race was Jack Cook, who was pushed to the line by team mate Jonty Brown. Buxton’s Liam Jones finished next in 10th with Jim Burgess 14th, 6 year old Stanley Cook 18th, Benji Gray 20th and Oliver Bates 24th. In the girls race Eden Pigott led the Buxton team home in 2nd with Lena Goulding hot on her heels for 3rd, Molly Golden battling in 4th, Rebecca Cudahy in 6th, Flo Brown 8th, Emily Jones 10th and Erin Colebrook 11th. Evie Willis came in 15th followed by 5 year old Georgia Cudahy having a great race in 16th and sister Hannah in 20th.
The main Junior race Buxton’s Lucy Bednall , who won last year’s series, finished first girl overall and Harry Bond 2nd overall – 1st JM15. Also winning their age categories were Amy Whelan who came 2nd girl first JF14 and Sienna Phillips 1st JF12 – 6th girl, with Grace Bond 2nd and Rebecca Cudahy 3rd. Heather Wilshaw who lost a shoe and finished in one sock! – was 5th girl overall – 2nd JF15 with Ava Hazelhurst 3rd in the same category and Lucy Whelan was 2nd in the JF11 having had an impressive race to finish 10th girl overall.
Buxton’s Jake O’Donnell who was undefeated in the Fun Run series last year came an impressive 3rd boy overall, winning the JM12 category. Matt Rolfe was 8th JM11, and Joseph Thorogood 5th JM13.
