Stuck Like Glue At The Inter-Counties!

The British Inter-Counties Cross Country Championships was held this weekend at Prestwold Hall, Loughborough. Athletes from all over Britain had to qualify and be selected to represent their counties in this prestigious event. Buxton AC had an impressive 8 athletes qualify for County teams and took on an extremely challenging course against the best in Britain!

First up representing Derbyshire in the U20 mens team was Buxton’s Will Tighe. Will has had an outstanding season this year and is Derbyshire Champion in both the schools and the county championships. He did not disappoint today coming in an impressive 25th overall.
Next up were the Under 17 ladies and Buxton had 4 athletes qualify of the 8 strong team. Unfortunately Lucy Bednall was already committed to the European Duathon Championships in Spain so could not run and Buxton’s Ellie Wilson started the race but had to pull out due to illness. Buxton AC’s Amy Whelan and Heather Wilshaw however, put in valiant performances completed the gruelling course, where multiple athletes unable to finish, in 126th and 129th positions overall – the Derbyshire Team finishing in 30th potion overall.

The under 17 boys team faired well with Buxton’s Fin Grant and Sam Soles running for Derbyshire both put in strong performances – Fin coming in an outstanding 56th and Sam an impressive 110th. The U17 men’s Derbyshire team finished in a cracking 9th overall. Buxton AC’s Harry Bond qualified to represent Staffordshire. He came in 223rd with the Staffordshire team finishing 31st overall.
