Wilson On Winning Form

The last race in the Manchester Area Cross Country League was held at Kenworthy Woods on Saturday.  The sixth race in the league saw the final placings finalised with Buxton AC juniors taking 2 podium positions.

Buxton superstar Ellie Wilson took second place in this round to consolidate her overall position in the league as under 17 female champion! Wilson has had an outstanding season having taken a Silver at the Regional Schools Cross Countries and qualified to run for Derbyshire in the Inter Counties next month.  Also on the podium for Buxton was Jacob Miller who took Bronze overall in the under 20 boys category.

Finishing just outside the podium positions in 4th U17 male overall was Buxton’s Sam Soles, with team mate Stuart Diamond finishing 14th overall.  In the under 15 girls category Amy Whelan put in a strong performance to complete the series in 8th position, with Sienna Philips working hard in the competitive under 13 girls competition coming in 23rd overall.

Buxton had a great turn out in the under 11 competition with Dylan Gray and Matt Rolfe completing the series in 49th and 53rd and for the girls – Rachel Cudahy, Aoife Lennon and Rebecca Cudahy packing well to complete in 47th, 48th and 50th positions overall.  Jonty Brown made his debut in the league at this the last race coming an impressive 22rd.

On Sunday Buxton juniors dominated at Whaley Bridge parkrun, with Jonty Brown coming in 1st overall and Lucy Whelan in 3rd overall – 2nd girl.  Flo Brown finished in 4th place – 3rd girl, and received her celebratory wrist-band for having completed 50 runs! Flo had a fabulous weekend of running, having achieved a double parkrun personal bests – 10.25 at Whaley Bridge on Sunday after having already bagged a PB at Macclesfield Parkrun on the Saturday!
