An excellent start to the fells!

 

 

On Wednesday 20th April a group of Buxton Seniors and Juniors travelled to a local fell race in Glossop – the well known Herod Farm Fell race. This famous route is a short but extremely steep (3 miles with over 1000ft of climbing) course. In the female U18 category, Grace Longden ran a great race to finish 1st junior girl and 4th lady overall. Caleb Winfield also represented Buxton Juniors to finish first U18 male and achieved 8th overall. Jo Bednall also ran an excellent race to win her age category too. Overall, there were some impressive results for all the Buxton runners. David Fryer Winder came 29th, David Finch 39th, Jonathan Sewell 42nd closely followed by Nick Jones in 43rd, Mathew Nadin 95th, Richard Bouglas 110th, Paul Markall 114th, Katie Rolfe 115th, Tracy Gregory 140th, Heather Fryer Winder 142nd, Tim Rolfe 144th, George Web 146th and Duncan Bryant 148th.

 

The success continued on Sunday 24th April when 7 Buxton Juniors travelled up to Black Combe, South Lake District to compete in the first English Junior Fell Running Championship of the season. These routes for all races were long, very steep and the weather was windy! In the U15s, Buxton juniors Jack Cook and Lucy Whelan finished 8th and 27th. The next race was the U17s, this race climbed to the summit of Black Combe – with over 1900ft of climing over a 7.4km course. Grace Longden ran to finish 4th girl overall with Connie Jenneson placing 11th girl. The U19 race saw Buxton Juniors Will Longden place 2nd, Lucy Bednall 4th and Amy Whelan 6th. An excellent day of racing with an amazing set of results by the Buxton Juniors.

Meanwhile, Erin Colebrook competed at the Derby Track and Field Mini League and took part in many events delivering some brilliant results. In the discus, Erin finished 1st place with a distance of 15.74m! Whilst on the track, Erin finished 5th in the 200m in a time of 33.43secs and then in the 800m, placed 2nd (2.45 secs).
