The Staffordshire Moorlands Summer Series is a series of 10 races based around the fields and fells of Staffordshire taking in some of the most scenic off road running the region has to offer. Last Thursday saw the first race take place at Tittersworth Reservoir. Buxton juniors had a great turn out of 11 youngsters with 7 of them in age category top 3 positions!
The under 16 year olds ran a 2 mile, multi-terrain junior course. Coming in first Buxton was Harry Bond who was 4th overall and the first in his age category Junior Male 14 (JM14). Buxton’s super star off road runner Lucy Bednall put in another sparkling performance to finish first girl overall and first in her age category JF14. Sienna Phillips shone in 12th position overall coming 3rd girl but first in her age category JF11. Hot on her heels was Amy Whelan 4th girl and first JF13. Coming in 5th girl and 2nd JF11 was Grace Bond followed by Ava Hazelhurst in 6th girl, 2nd JF14. Completing Buxton’s superstar team was Luke Guise – the 17th boy, 8th JM12. 37 Juniors ran.
The Under 11’s ran a Fun Run over a shorter course. Four Buxton juniors took part with Edward Hazelhurst leading them home in a scorching performance to finish first overall. Lucy Whelan came in next in 23rd – 6th girl overall. 7 year old Jim Burgess put in a super performance to come in 24th – 18th boy, followed by Henry Hazelhurst completing the team as 22nd boy out of 62 youngsters who took part.
