Dashers Take a Dip At Dovedale!

Buxton AC juniors dominated this years iconic Dovedale Dash in both the senior and junior races!

The Dash is a cross country race of 4 3/4 mile, run by over a thousand people of all ages and abilities. The venue is the picturesque area around the village of Thorpe near Dovedale in the south of the Derbyshire Peak District. The course is mainly along field paths and open ground in the valleys of the river Dove and Manifold. One of the excitements is the dramatic crossing of the river Dove at the well known Stepping Stones.  This year 1363 runners took part in the main race with just over 70 in the Children’s race.

First under 18 boy and third overall was  Buxton’s Alex Ediker in a time of 26 mins and 9 secs. Alex wins the Ian Hall Cup. Second under 18 was team mate Will Tighe (27:55) – 9th overall. Elliot Meylan was 5th U18 (23rd) and Jacob Buckley 7th U18 (32th overall).  Buxton AC’s Ellie Wilson also had a great run finishing 3rd U18 girl, 8th lady.

The Under 10’s Mini-Dash race is 1.25miles long and starts at the bottom of Thorpe Cloud, down to the river Dove, under Thorpe Cloud and back up Lin Dale to the main race finish. Buxton AC’s rising star Jonty Brown was first overall – a fete made all the more impressive when you consider that his race last year ended up in the Red Cross ambulance after taking a fall!  Also taking part in the junior race was Jonty’s sister, Flo, who was 4th under 8 girl, and team mate Liam Jones was 10th under 10 boy – 74 youngsters took part in the race.
