Wednesday saw the start of the Cross Country season for Buxton AC with 64 runners taking part in the Club Cross Country race over Solomon’s Temple.
It was a glorious evening to take on the undulating course around the temple with the younger juniors running one lap, while the older juniors and seniors ran 2 laps totalling 5.7km. 23 juniors took part and gave the seniors areal run for their money – with Sam Soles and Will Longden battling their way around the course to come in 3rd and 4th overall – 1st and 2nd juniors. Team mates Stu Diamond, Harry Bond and Matt Schoffield also came in the top 10 overall in 6th, 7th and 9th. The first junior girl to finish both laps was Heather Wilshaw in 37th overall – 9th lady.
Of the juniors running one lap – Ellie Wilson led the field – 1st U17 girl, followed by Amy Whelan – 1st U15 girl, Grace Longden -1st U13 girl and Sienna Phillips 2nd U13 girl. Rachel Cudahy was 1st U11 girl followed by Grace Bond – 3rd U13 girl, Rebecca Cudahy 2nd U11 girl, Molly Golden – 3rd U11 and Lexi Tomlinson – 1st U8 girl. Ben Hawtin was first junior boy – 1st U13 boy, followed by Hugo Davis – 1st U11 boy, and Henry Hazelhurst 2nd U11 boy. Liam Jones was 3rd 11 boy and Joseph Thorogood 2nd U13 boy. The youngest runner was 6 year old Lincoln Davis who was 1st U8 boy followed by Jimmy Golden 2nd U8 boy.
On Saturday the Club organised it’s monthly Pavilion Gardens 5k race – this being it’s 6th Anniversary. Buxton junior Ben Hawtin was 2nd junior finishing 12th overall, with team mates Luke Guise 4th junior – 27th, Joseph Thorogood 5th – 33rd overall and Matt Rolfe 5th – 50th overall.
