The Hairy Helmets are a club favourite for Buxton AC. Introduced in 2010,The Helmet is a 4 leg relay skirting around Darley Park for just over 2 miles on each leg.

The relay is for everyone whether you like racing, running off round, running with your mates, drinking with your mates or just enjoying yourself you’ll be able to find this at the Helmet. 225 teams take part over 17 very different categories. There is also fun run prior to the main relay. Every adult at the end of the race can have if they are feeling inclined a bottle of local ale donated by Derventio Brewery. Profits from this race support Rainbows Hospice for children and young adults which is based in Loughborough and something for Darley Abbey.

Buxton Juniors have a history of success at this event which is a real family affair with the club supplying a free coach there and back, and a category for everyone from Ultra Super vets – combined age over 240 to the best Fancy Dress team! This year Buxton’s junior team were outstanding! The Buxton Boys team of Stuart Diamond, Ed Diamond, Harry Bond and Sam Soles not only won the Junior Male category but were Second Team overall!! The Buxton Butterflies team of Amy Whelan, Heather Wilshaw, Lauren Wilshaw and Lucy Bednall won the Junior Female category but were also Second Female team overall!! Outstanding results from the juniors showing the seniors how it’s done!
