Buxton Juniors have excelled themselves on the fells this weekend. Sam Soles ran the James Thorn Fell race in Glossop and Heather Wilshaw ventured further afield to the North Yorkshire to race in the Ilkley Moor Fell Race, both finishing as first juniors.
The James Thorn Fell Race is a classic 5 mile up and down fell race over a steep and challenging route from the Royal Oak in Glossop up Snake Pass and into the hills. Sam was up there with the leaders throughout the race finishing 4th overall first under 18 boy in a field of 60 runners.
Ilkley Moor Fell Race in Yorkshire is a challenging race also over 5 miles with 401 metres of ascent and steep challenging descents. It is the 5th race in the Fell Running Association’s 50@50 Challenge celebrating the organisations 50th year. Heather, at only 16, was the youngest runner this prestigious race that attracted a competitive field of over 300 runners. Heather took the prize for first under 18 woman and was 3rd under 23 woman behind 2 England International ladies, including Buxton based lady Helen Thornhill who was first lady home.
