PAVILION GARDENS 5K – 9am, SATURDAY 13 APRIL

The April Pavilion Gardens 5K is going to be a very special occasion – we haven’t had a cake stall for over a year, and the one we’re having this month is the mother of all cake stalls!
Danielle Watson, she of the “21 challenges at the age of 21” fame, has spent her time since her 21st birthday last year raising money in all sorts of unusual and unique ways – learning 21 languages, walking up Kinder 21 times, carrying out 21 acts of kindness, knitting 210 granny squares, walking up to Solomon’s Temple 21 times, are just a few from her long list. One of her final challenges is to bake 21 different cakes and all the proceeds will go towards the two charities that she’s supporting, both of which have a special place in the hearts of Buxton AC members – Mind, the mental health charity whose aim is to make sure no one has to face a mental health problem alone; and The Thomas Theyer Foundation, which the Club has supported since it’s formation following the tragic loss of one of our own Juniors Thomas Theyer.
She’s given me a list of the goodies she will be bringing along – she starts baking after her shift finishes next Thursday at 2pm, so she’s got her work cut out, and knowing Danielle, she’ll manage all this lot fine:
Victoria sponge, chocolate brownies, Madeira cake, lemon drizzle cake, orange and sultana cake, butterfly cakes, coffee & walnut traybake, tea loaf, chocolate chip & vanilla marble cake, ginger & treacle traybake, Battenburg cake, chocolate cake, Nonna’s special biscuit cake, gingerbread, coffee cake, apple & cinnamon cake, lemon yoghourt cake, chocolate Rice Krispie cakes, fruit loaf, carrot traybake and rhubarb & date loaf. There could be a few jars of my homemade jam there too …
I hope every single person who comes along to take part in the 5K, as a runner, as a helper or as a spectator, will support Danielle in her amazing challenge by buying some of her delicious goodies – all donations, small or large, will be very gratefully received by Danielle and her two worthwhile charities.
On to the more mundane aspects of our 5K ……. It’s FREE, it’s FRIENDLY, it’s FANTASTIC! Three laps of our beautiful Pavilion Gardens, well marked and marshalled by our supportive & cheering marshals – what better way to start your weekend off? Turn up around 8.40 on Broad Walk for a 9am start.
